| How I view my Art |
'Every person's lifetime is anchored within a greater, universal lifetime. Each of us shares the whole of life's time on Earth. Salt remnants of ancient oceans flow through our veins, ashes of expired stars rekindle in our genetic chemistry.'(Theodor Roszak) I am very aware of the sense of inter-connection between all people with one another and also with the natural world: that there are dimensions beyond the three in which we currently relate. This has been an underlying theme of my work for the past six years, from the mundane to the transpersonal, from the individual to the community. I have chose to convey this through the use of layering, intermingling form and colour, suggesting the depths and range of possibilities. My paintings communicate my feelings about the nature of human existence and our relationships with one another and the planet, believing that there is an energy beyond us. In the 'purest silence of the human spirit' (Ben Okri) we are able to touch that truth which speaks beyond words. I intend to study the MA in Transpersonal Art at Chichester and to continue producing paintings of this nature, working as a professional artist, displaying my work in galleries throughout the UK. Personal Statement My underlying interest in our (mankind's) connection with the Universe forms all the images I create. The object holds the patterns of the cosmos and we are all inevitably bound to its natural laws and designs. A single tree is its own world: the roots have grown through time, knowing its history, yet providing existence in the present, and allowing possibilities for the future. The leaves are the maps of our existence, portraying the memories and acquired knowledge for all to view - a lifetime in a year, which passes away as they turn colour and fall to the ground. New life will sprout after the death of winter. The cones hold the imprint of the form of an existence to come; in one atom is the print for an entire tree. They contain the potential of unlived experiences, places not yet discovered or visited, responses unpredicted, memories not yet formed. |
